BIENALSUR- Imagine. Fantasies, Dreams, Utopias

Joaquín Fargas exhibited his Biosphere Project in a site-specific version specially created for the edition of BIENALSUR Imagines. Fantasies, Dreams, Utopias, at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA), the first contemporary art museum in that country.

This format, unprecedented in the BIENALSUR cartography, establishes an expanded curatorial practice that not only represents an invitation to adopt an alert and creative perspective but also stimulates imagination and fantasy. Additionally, it introduces aspects related to the relationship with the environment and cultural memory, which currently hold a central place in global agendas.

The Biosphere Project has the mission to collaborate in raising awareness about the fragility of our planet Earth and the need to take care of it.

An ecosystem composed of plants and various organisms in completely sealed spheres represents our world on an infinitesimal scale. Plants produce photosynthesis and during that process generate their own food and release oxygen to the medium used by other organisms in a symbiotic effect where the life of each one depends on the other.

Curated by Diana B. Wechsler.

From November 1st to December 30th, 2023.

SAMoCA is located in the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the JAX District.
